HW 31 - Exploring Methods of M,M,C,A, & Aggrandizing the Self

Part A

i was at my cousins house and i notice that he had just bought these sneakers that i knew cost a lot one of the questions i asked him was why did he waste so much money on these sneakers when he could have saved up for something or just kept the money his response to this was "the reason i spend so much i sneakers is because sneakers is something i enjoy having and they also make me feel a little cooler because i am wearing something i like"

i thought that his answer was pretty true and he wasn't like really trying to avoid the question he just went with how he like sneakers and how it makes him feel cooler and i think thats the case for people who do spend a lot of money on things they either buy it for those two reasons.

Part B

one of the things that i am starting to do a lot which is pretty much the same thing my cousin did just i don't spend that much money on them is i've been getting into sneakers. the reasons that i think that i've gotten to the habit of buying sneakers is because sometimes i see people with some really nice sneakers that i would like than from there i would go online and see sneakers that i like and buy them. i guess i would fall under the categories of consuming because i am buying sneakers.

HW 30 - Psychological and Philosophical Theorizing of Cool

What are the sources of this sense of meaninglessness but also of the need for a sense of meaning?

people well always at one point or another or all the time will have a sense of meanlessness. people also always try to be things or try to do things that will make other people judge as. what we all soon seem to figure out is that at one point or another our lives are going to end, and most the lives we live or end up living or useless pointless lives that really doesn't mean noting to know one but maybe yourself. one of the things that really mix with not being meaninglessness but it ends up turning to noting is cool in general. people try to be cool to feel like they are a part of something and that they can relate to other people if it has to be with wearing the same thing or something like that they try to be a part of it. but the end result to that is that you are still going to be filled with the sense of being meaningless and also so a sense of emptiness because there might always be a person that you think is cool and is always dressing cool that you cant really catch up to them so you start to give up and that just ends in you feeling meaningless again. what i think everyone try's to do on a daily basis is to try to find a sense of meaning and to try to figure out what they can do to feel like they have a reason to be here being cool is just one way of trying to find a sense of meaning but even that might turn to backfire on you.

i was reading this short thing about Becker's theory of the fear of annihilation in death and there was this quote that said
"A generalized expectation of danger occurs during the stressful condition known as anxiety. The anxious person experiences a state of heightened tension that Walter Cannon described in 1927 as readiness for "fight or flight." If the threat passes or is overcome, the person (or animal) returns to normal functioning. Anxiety has therefore served its purpose in alerting the person to a possible danger. Unfortunately, sometimes the alarm keeps ringing; the individual continues to behave as though in constant danger. Such prolonged stress can disrupt the person's life, distort relationships, and even produce life-threatening physical changes. Is the prospect of death the alarm that never stops ringing? Is death anxiety the source of people's most profound uneasiness? Or is death anxiety a situational or abnormal reaction that occurs when coping skills are overwhelmed?"
one of the main messages i got from this quote was that when people are in a sense that they know danger going to happen to them or they know there going to die they start to act differently and i guess in a panic sorta which changes how they are in general and i feel that sometimes happens to people which ends up for them having pointless life's because they thought about it to much that it took to much time for them to make a real dession

HW 29 - Merchants of Cool

What these corporations try to do is they do to find out what we like is they do a lot of research. They either go to where a lot of teens hang out and ask question or they do what the guy did in the video which was one on one with a teenager asked him a bunch of questions and checked the things he wearied. After these corporations gets the information that they do than is they have a meeting and see what they have already to put out there so teens will like it and buy it. Doing these types of field works helps them a lot because they get to really see what teens like and after knowing what teens like than from there they are able to start manipulating us by making different products that they know we will end up buying.

If you were to bad advertising I think that it would hurt the big corporations in some ways but than I can see them figuring out different ways to still get there product out there and for teens to buy it, like word of mouth could advertise what the corporation is selling people just talking about it and wearing it which starts a chain of other people doing it and it just goes on from there so I don’t really think there is really a way to stop corporations from advertising they will always find a way around it.

Well what the corporations’ already doing is pretty messed up already. What they are doing is there taking our ideas than making a product with our ideas and just selling it right back to as and they make a profit and we just buy back our ideas. The thing is we just help the corporations by buy buying our ideas back which is there product so either way we are both at felt.

I think what was Britney Spears did was wrong about dressing the way she did in a young age but it really wasn’t her felt she just wanted to be famous and a star so she was willing to do anything pretty much to get there, and the corporations knew this so they were the ones who told her to dress like that or act like that and she pretty much knew that if she said no that they would just replace her with another girl that would. I am not really sure why millions of teens consume the image I think it was because they saw this young pop star doing all these things making music dressing the way she dressed that a lot of people wanted to be like her and they thought it was cool. I think that it does this sort of image lead to loveless performance of alienated hyper-sexuality in the name of cool but this just goes back to our society being the way it is and also how big corporations just takes advantage of this.

HW 28 - Informal Research - Internet, Magazines, and TV Shows

Brett, Cliff. "Top 10 steps on how to be cool in college: As told by me.." WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 29, 2007. Web. 7 Dec 2009.

in this reading it talks about the 10 steps on how to be cool in college and if you were to follow these 10 steps that you would be consider cool.

I think that this guy was joking around about a lot of the steps he made because a lot of the steps you really would not do like there was one step where he saids "be sure to have a T-Shirt that looks like your grandma Minnie's night gown. If you cannot afford a Tall T, USE YOUR GRANDMA Minnie's night gown!" and than in other parts of the steps he makes them sound like he's joking

who, alan. "how to be cool." feb,16,2009. Web. 7 Dec 2009. .

in this reading this guy just talks about 20 you need to know about being cool, some of the steps that he talks about are things you might have heard before others are just a little random and thinks outside of the box which would be a little cool because its being different.

i think that this reading was reading was pretty good and most of the things he wrote was pretty common about being yourself and some other things but than there are some other things that he wrote that were different that the most people would not do but most of the things he wrote were good.
